Issue(s)
- Closed loop Vortex will not rotate when pressing the A+ or A- jog buttons
- Closed loop Vortex might move when repeatedly pressing the jog buttons
Resolutions
No Power
- Confirm there is power at the motors by checking the back and ensuring there is a green LED and no flashing red LEDS.
- If the green LED is OFF and there is a flashing red LED, power cycle the controller and check the LEDs again.
- Check that the Vortex's motor cables are secured. If you have closed loop motors on your machine (AltMill, upgraded LongMill), compare the wire colour order to make sure they all match.
If nothing's changed:
SLB-EXT Controller
- Make sure the plug is in the correct location (Any connector in yellow). Do not plug the vortex into the plug labeled CONT.
SLB Controller
- Ensure the power y-connector is plugged into the power supply and plugged into the SLB and the motor power connector


Closed-Loop Firmware Settings are incorrect
Ensure the following settings are enabled in gSender 1.5.0 and newer
- Go to Config, then use the search bar to find the following settings:
- $4 Invert stepper enable pins → toggle A to be ON (do not adjust X, Y, Z settings)

$21 Hard limits enable → toggle Enable to be OFF
- $22 Homing cycle → match the toggles as shown

- $37 Steppers deenergize → toggle A to be ON

- $376 Rotational axes → ON
Once you have made these changes, press ‘Apply Settings.’

Vortex Motor Dip Switch
Check the dip switches on the back of the closed-loop stepper motor to ensure they are set to the correct settings. Use a small tool to seat the small switches. The switches should be:
1 – ON, 2-ON, 3-ON, 4-OFF, 5-ON

LongMill with Spindle Kits and Vortex
Customers with the spindle kits are recommended to enable the Z axis for 37 Steppers deenergize. When using the spindle kit with the vortex the following settings are:
